Captain Cook Lookout
About Captain Cook Lookout
Captain Cook Lookout is one of the best spots on Norfolk Island for wide, uninterrupted coastal views. The cliffs are high and dramatic, and on clear days you can see out to the outer islets that circle the island. It’s easy to get to and has a few short trails nearby, so it’s more than just a viewpoint. Bring a snack, sit on the bench, and just take it in for a while. It’s quiet, simple, and striking.
When to visit
Autumn brings the clearest skies, comfortable walking conditions, and fewer visitors. It’s ideal for scenic views and short hikes.

Getting There
From Burnt Pine, drive east for about 15 minutes toward Duncombe Bay. Follow the signs to Captain Cook Road until you reach the car park near the trailhead. The road is sealed the whole way, and it’s an easy walk to the lookout from there. No public transport runs to the site, so a rental car is your best option.
