Ball Bay Reserve is where locals go to relax without much fuss. It’s one of the few beaches on Norfolk Island where you can actually swim when conditions are right, with a calm bay backed by cliffs and plenty of space to spread out. You won’t find shops or facilities, just a grassy area for picnics, the sound of the waves, and maybe a few cows wandering nearby. It’s peaceful, simple, and worth the short drive from town.

Autumn is ideal with mild weather, steady surf, and a quiet shoreline that’s great for short swims and picnics without the wind.

Getting There
From Burnt Pine, drive east for about 10 minutes on Country Road, then take the turn toward Ball Bay. Follow the signs until you reach the grassy reserve and small beach access. There’s no public transport, so a rental car is best. The road is sealed most of the way and the spot is easy to find.
