Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge

About Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge

Set high in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi, it pairs direct access to one of Uganda’s most memorable wildlife experiences with sweeping views, strong local character, and a real sense of quiet. It also has a community-rooted story, having been developed in partnership with conservation groups and the local Nkuringo community.

When to visit

June to August is the clearest dry-season window for trekking, while December to February is another strong period with drier trails and crisp mountain views.

Most popular: June - August

Spring · Mar, Apr, May

March to May is wetter, greener, and more dramatic, with regular rain turning the forest intensely vibrant. It can be a gorgeous time for travellers who want fewer people and a moodier mountain setting, though steep trails are often slicker and more physically challenging.

Summer · Jun, Jul, Aug

June to August is the standout season for Clouds, with the driest stretch of the year helping keep trekking routes firmer and views clearer. Days remain cool and comfortable at altitude, and the lodge’s fireplaces, sweeping ridgeline setting, and gorilla access feel especially irresistible at this time.

Autumn · Sep, Oct, Nov

September to November brings richer forest colour, mistier days, and heavier rainfall, especially into October and November. The scenery feels intensely lush and atmospheric, but trails can be muddier and trekking conditions more demanding, making this a quieter and more romantic shoulder-to-low season.

Winter · Dec, Jan, Feb

December to February is one of the most rewarding times to stay at Clouds, with drier conditions than the rainier months and bright views across the volcanoes and valley. Trekking is usually more comfortable, the lodge feels beautifully crisp in the mornings, and this period balances strong safari conditions with a polished, high-demand atmosphere.
