About Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is in northern Tanzania. It’s home to Africa's "big 5" (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino) and sees huge herds of wildebeests and zebras traverse its plains during their annual migration. Livestock belonging to the semi-nomadic Maasai tribe graze alongside wild animals.

When to visit

June to October is the classic dry-season safari window, while November to April brings greener scenery and calving activity on the plains.

Getting There

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is located in northern Tanzania west of Arusha, with the main entry at Loduare Gate near Karatu, and is usually reached in about 3 to 4 hours by road from Arusha or after arriving via Kilimanjaro International Airport.
