Craters Edge

About Craters Edge

Craters Edge is a strong option if you want to stay close to Ngorongoro Crater without the experience feeling too formal or overdone. The location on the crater rim is the main draw, especially if you want easier access for early game drives and views that keep the setting front and centre. It suits a trip where the crater is a major part of the plan and where a calm, well-placed stay adds to the overall experience.

When to visit

June to October is the classic dry-season sweet spot, while November to May is greener and warmer but wetter overall.

Most popular: June - October

Spring · Sep, Oct, Nov

Spring runs from Sep. to Nov. and begins dry, scenic, and highly rewarding before the short rains arrive later in the season. September and October are especially attractive for crisp crater views and easier safari conditions, while November turns greener and moodier with more frequent afternoon showers.

Summer · Dec, Jan, Feb

Summer spans Dec. to Feb. and feels warmer during the day, with lush surroundings and dramatic crater scenery around the lodge. It is a beautiful time for travellers who want greener landscapes and softer light, though mornings can still feel cold on the rim.

Autumn · Mar, Apr, May

Autumn falls from Mar. to May and is the wettest stretch of the year, with the long rains bringing greener scenery, more mist, and less reliable dry safari conditions. It is quieter and more atmospheric, but less ideal for travellers seeking the crispest crater-rim experience.

Winter · Jun, Jul, Aug

Winter in Craters Edge runs from Jun. to Aug. and is the classic high-demand season, with lots of sunshine on the crater floor and drier overall conditions. The rim can still feel chilly and misty, which only adds to the lodge’s dramatic highland atmosphere.
