Accessible only by a quarter-mile hike in, Bear Canyon Lake is one of many fishing lakes built by the Arizona Game and Fish Department in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Surrounded by a variety of aspens, blue spruce and pine trees, this lake provides the perfect summer weekend getaway for fishermen, hikers, campers and those looking to soak in some refreshing mountain air. There are first-come-first-serve campsites spread out above the lake, and numerous hiking trails to explore the pristine lake and the surrounding areas of the Mogollon Rim.

Bear Canyon Lake is located on the Mogollon Rim off Forest Road 300, almost an hour’s drive northeast of Payson and two and a half hours drive from Phoenix.
