The central European country, Czechia, boasts historic cities, world-class architecture, romantic castles, and enticing natural wonders. Home to 12 UNESCO World Heritage sites, with an east-meets-west atmosphere, tourism is now becoming increasingly popular.

Prague, the capital, is where authentic European culture, cuisine, bars, and cafes mix. Walk around the biggest castle complex in Europe or enjoy the sheer beauty of magnificent churches as it is known as the 'City of the Thousand Spires'. For a superb panorama of the bridges of Prague, visit Letna Park. For fine dining, the Michelin-starred La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise is an excellent culinary experience of modern Czech cuisine. On the other end of the budget, pubs, beer halls, cafes, and restaurants cater to everyone, and nightlife is alive and well.

A recommended way to experience Prague is on a free walking tour as there are several to choose from. The local guides are a terrific source of information for places to eat and drink, like the best place to try a Chimney Cake, a delicious doughnut-like pastry, also called trdelnik.

Step out of the capital, and a multitude of experiences await. There's Kutna Hora, one of the most visited destinations in the country, Kroměříž, famous for its architecture and good coffee. Try Velo Cafe and treat yourself to their heavenly cheesecake. Don't forget to sample the local beers along with the art and music scene. Cesky Krumlov, 180 kilometres south of Prague, can be easily reached by train, bus, or self-drive.

Check the Old Town - a perfectly preserved medieval town and for those that like hiking, pull on your boots and hit the trails around this scenic city. Bohemian Switzerland, named due to its resemblance to Swiss landscapes, is a beautiful region of enchanting valleys, long forest walks, picturesque panoramas interspersed with colossal rock formations. Here also includes the Pravčická brána, the most massive natural sandstone arch in Europe. Another excellent area for hiking.

Best time to visit Czechia

Every season offers something a little different in Czechia. Winter from December to February sees temperatures dip to around -2 Celsius, while summer sees the daytime temperatures reach the mid-twenties. March to May and September to November are considered some of the best times to visit. June to August is high tourist season and November to March low season with some places, especially in the countryside closing for a break. In winter, the Christmas markets are spectacular, and summer is the season for festivals.
