About Lombok

Lombok is an Indonesian island east of Bali and west of Sumbawa, known for beautiful beaches and surfing spots, particularly at Banko Banko in south Lombok. The motor-vehicle-free Gili Islands off Lombok’s west coast, offer more beaches, reefs for diving and snorkeling, and a sea turtle hatchery.

When to visit

The best time to visit Lombok is during the dry season, when sunny days and pleasant temperatures make exploring comfortable.

Most popular: April - October

Spring · Sep, Oct, Nov

Spring in Lombok, from March to May, is a transition period that brings comfortable warmth and clear skies after the rainy season. It's a good time to explore the island's diverse attractions like the vibrant Sasak villages, Tiu Kelep waterfall, and the scenic rice terraces. The island has a peaceful vibe, and the lush greenery is thriving. This is also the season when surfers start riding the waves at the southern beaches, while the diving spots open up with rich marine life.

Summer · Dec, Jan, Feb

June through August is the peak of the dry season, making it ideal for hitting the beaches. The island is bustling with sun-seekers enjoying clear days, perfect temperatures, and calm seas. The famous Pink Beach, known for its unique colored sand, offers striking views. Mount Rinjani attracts hikers who take advantage of the dry trails, while snorkeling and diving enthusiasts flock to the nearby Gili Islands for unforgettable underwater exploration.

Autumn · Mar, Apr, May

September to November brings a slight shift in weather as the dry season wanes. You can expect occasional showers, but still, plenty of pleasant weather. It's a prime time for waterfall exploration and cultural events like the Peresean stick-fighting festival. The landscapes retain their post-summer vibrancy, and it's easier to find uncrowded beaches and peaceful retreats.

Winter · Jun, Jul, Aug

December through February is the rainy season, with daily downpours that mostly clear up in the afternoon. Despite the rain, Lombok maintains a relaxed vibe, and the vegetation is at its lushest. This is the best time for rafting and experiencing the island’s waterfalls in full flow. Although it's a quieter season for tourism, it’s perfect for travelers who appreciate natural beauty, cultural experiences, and finding hidden gems.
