Wilderness Linkwasha Camp feels more immersed in the safari than a standard lodge stay, which is a big part of the appeal. In a private concession in Hwange, the setting is shaped by open plains, strong wildlife viewing, and a quieter atmosphere that keeps the experience focused on the landscape around you. The waterhole in front of camp also adds a lot, especially when wildlife starts passing through without you needing to go anywhere. 

When to visit

June to November is the classic time for dense wildlife at waterholes, while December to March is superb for calving season, birdlife, and greener landscapes.

Spring · Sep, Oct, Nov

Spring in Hwange, from Sep. to Nov., is hot, dry, and dramatic. Wildlife concentrations build around limited water, visibility stays excellent, and predator-prey encounters can be exceptional, especially as October heat intensifies. It is a thrilling safari season, but temperatures rise sharply toward the end.

Summer · Dec, Jan, Feb

Summer, from Dec. to Feb., is the green season and one of Linkwasha’s most exciting times for open-plains action. Calving season draws multitudes of wildebeest, zebra, and impala onto the Ngamo Plains, predator activity increases, and migrant birds arrive in breeding plumage. The landscape feels lush, colourful, and alive, even though game is more spread out than in the dry months.

Autumn · Mar, Apr, May

Autumn, from Mar. to May, is a transitional season that shifts from late green-season richness into drier, more open safari conditions. March can still feel lush and active, while April and May bring warm days, easier viewing, and the first stronger signs of dry-season concentration around water. It is a rewarding shoulder period with fewer extremes.

Winter · Jun, Jul, Aug

Winter, from Jun. to Aug., is dry, cool, and classically safari-perfect. Waterholes become magnets for wildlife, mornings can be very cold, and daytime conditions are comfortable for long game drives and time in the hide. This is one of the most reliable and satisfying periods for concentrated big-game viewing.

Getting There

Wilderness Linkwasha Camp is located in a private concession in southeastern Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, and is usually reached by a roughly 50-minute flight from Victoria Falls Airport to Linkwasha Airstrip, followed by a 50 to 60-minute game-drive transfer to camp.
