Ervatão Beach

About Ervatão Beach

Ervatão Beach feels quieter and more untouched than many of Boa Vista’s better-known coastal stops. Known for its long sandy stretch, strong natural setting, and importance as a nesting area for loggerhead turtles, it suits a trip that leans more scenic and low-key than busy or built up. It also works well if you want to see a side of Boa Vista that feels more connected to nature.

When to visit

The long dry season is best for general beach visits, while turtle nesting season from June to October is the standout time for wildlife-focused trips.

Most popular: July - September

Spring · Mar, Apr, May

Spring is one of the strongest times to visit Ervatão for scenery and comfort, with warm weather, very little rain, and clear desert-coast light across Boa Vista. It feels spacious, dry, and beautifully exposed, making it excellent for beach walks and remote coastal exploration before the main turtle months intensify.

Summer · Jun, Jul, Aug

Summer brings hotter conditions and the beginning of the turtle nesting season, with guided turtle observation on Boa Vista running from June to mid-October and August marking the peak month. This is the most exciting season for wildlife, though humidity and rain chances rise later in summer compared with the drier months.

Autumn · Sep, Oct, Nov

Autumn remains highly rewarding for turtle-focused visits, especially early in the season, but it is also the wetter stretch of the year on Boa Vista. Conditions can feel more changeable than in winter and spring, though the beach remains exceptionally dramatic and uncrowded.

Winter · Dec, Jan, Feb

Winter is dry, breezy, and very comfortable, making it one of the best seasons for Ervatão if your focus is landscape, atmosphere, and open coastal beauty rather than turtle nesting. The beach feels calmer and cleaner in mood, with very low rainfall and mild temperatures across the island.
