Kwanza River
About Kwanza River
The Kwanza River gives you a different side of Angola, one that feels scenic, expansive, and closely tied to the country’s history and landscape. As the longest river in Angola, it stretches from the central plateau to the Atlantic, and around places like Barra do Kwanza it works especially well for a slower, more nature-focused stop near Luanda. It is a good choice if you want open views, river scenery, and something that feels a little more relaxed than the city.
When to visit
The most comfortable time to experience the lower Kwanza is the cooler dry season, when rainfall is low, skies are clearer, and outdoor river scenery is at its best.
