Tahune Adventures

About Tahune Adventures

Tahune Adventures takes you into the heart of southern Tasmania’s forest country, where you can walk high above the trees, cross swinging bridges, and breathe in air that feels untouched. The Airwalk is the main draw, but the riverside tracks, picnic spots, and optional hang gliding give you more than just a quick look around. It’s an easy day trip from Hobart that feels far removed from the city without needing to go fully off grid.

When to visit

Autumn is best for calm weather, changing forest colours, and cool air that makes hiking and walking more enjoyable.

Most popular: April - May

Spring · Sep, Oct, Nov

Spring brings light rain, fresh green growth, and cool mornings. The rivers run strong and the forest starts to fill out again. It’s a peaceful time to explore the walking tracks and cross the swinging bridges without the crowds. Just bring a jacket and prepare for changeable weather.

Summer · Dec, Jan, Feb

Summer is warmer and the most popular season. The forest is lush, the skies stay clear longer, and the Airwalk is a great place to take in the view. It’s also the best time for those wanting to try the eagle hang glider. Early morning visits give you the quietest experience.

Autumn · Mar, Apr, May

Autumn is calm and crisp, with golden light and fewer visitors. The forest takes on deeper colours, and the cool air makes walking more comfortable. It’s a great season for photos and slow walks, and the rivers are still flowing steadily. The trails feel quieter and easier to enjoy fully.

Winter · Jun, Jul, Aug

Winter is cold, damp, and often misty, but it adds a dramatic edge to the landscape. The crowds are gone, and the forest feels quiet and raw. It’s not for everyone, but if you don’t mind layering up, it’s a unique time to see the region in a quieter, more atmospheric state.

Getting There

Tahune Adventures is about a 90-minute drive southwest of Hobart. Take the Huon Highway to Geeveston, then follow the signs through forest roads to the site. The drive is sealed most of the way but narrow in parts. A car is the best way to reach the area, and there’s free parking on site. Make sure to check weather updates before heading out, especially in winter.
