When to visit

The cooler, drier months are perfect for sailing and snorkeling with calm seas, pleasant temperatures, and excellent underwater visibility.

Most popular: May - August

Spring · Sep, Oct, Nov

Spring brings warm temperatures and beautiful clear water, perfect for spending a full day out exploring the Whitsundays. The coral reefs are at their most colourful and marine life is active. Day tours and sailing trips are especially popular at this time as the mild weather means perfect conditions for swimming, snorkeling, and beach walks.

Summer · Dec, Jan, Feb

Summer is hot and humid with the possibility of tropical rain. Tours still run regularly, and the warm water makes snorkeling even more enjoyable. You’ll see lush green islands and vibrant reefs. It’s best to book early morning departures to avoid the hottest part of the day and to plan for the chance of a passing shower.

Autumn · Mar, Apr, May

Autumn is one of the best seasons for touring the Whitsundays. The air and sea temperatures are comfortable and the winds are usually calm. With fewer visitors than summer, you get a more peaceful experience on the islands and reef. This is an ideal season for people wanting to combine adventure with a relaxing atmosphere.

Winter · Jun, Jul, Aug

Winter provides clear blue skies, cool mornings, and calm seas, making it ideal for sailing. It’s also the season for humpback whale sightings in the Whitsundays, adding something special to the tours. Snorkeling is still very enjoyable with good visibility and mild water temperatures. The smaller crowds and perfect weather make this a very popular season for Red Cat Adventures.
