Slow Bone BBQ

About Slow Bone BBQ

Slow Bone BBQ has served Texas-style barbecue in Dallas since 2013, smoking its meats on-site every day. Prime brisket, St. Louis pork ribs, pulled pork, sausage, turkey and smoke-fried chicken anchor the menu, backed by more than a dozen house-made sides. The kitchen also puts extra attention into vegetarian choices, pickles and sauces made in-house. Open daily for lunch, it keeps the setting casual while adding a more chef-driven approach to classic barbecue.

When to visit

Spring brings mild Dallas temperatures before the intense summer heat, with longer daylight making it easier to combine lunch here with sightseeing around the city.

Most popular: March - May

Spring · Mar, Apr, May

Dallas warms quickly through spring, with daytime temperatures rising from the upper 60s°F into the 80s°F by late season. Rain and thunderstorms become more frequent, particularly in May, so short weather delays are possible. Slow Bone is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, making it primarily a lunch stop. The milder daytime temperatures also make arriving early or spending time around the Design District before or after eating easier.

Summer · Jun, Jul, Aug

Summer brings Dallas’ strongest heat, with normal highs reaching about 96°F in July and August and many days climbing above 100°F. Since Slow Bone opens at 11 a.m., arriving near opening can reduce time spent outside during the hottest part of the afternoon. The restaurant closes at 3 p.m., so lunch planning matters more than evening dining. Thunderstorms still occur, but long stretches of hot, dry weather are common through the middle of the season.

Autumn · Sep, Oct, Nov

September often remains hot in Dallas, but temperatures gradually ease through October and November. By mid-autumn, afternoons are noticeably milder and outdoor plans become easier to manage after lunch. Slow Bone continues its daily 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule, with rotating specials alongside brisket, ribs, sausage and chicken. Rain can increase during parts of October, while November generally brings cooler mornings, shorter daylight hours and a clearer shift toward winter conditions.

Winter · Dec, Jan, Feb

Dallas winters stay fairly mild overall, though strong cold fronts can bring freezing mornings and occasional snow or ice. Slow Bone remains open for lunch throughout the season apart from listed holiday closures, serving smoked meats, brisket chili and warm sides that suit colder days. Most winter afternoons stay well above freezing, but temperatures can change sharply when a front passes through North Texas. Snowfall averages only a small number of days across the year.
