About Pony Express National Museum
The Pony Express eastern terminus was based in St. Joseph, Missouri, with a developed route that ended in Sacramento, California. A relay of riders were tasked with delivering messages, newspapers and mail via horseback across the western expanse - a treacherous trip that took 10 days. The Pony Express operated between April 1860 and October 1861. Three blocks to the east is the Patee House Museum, a former hotel where Pony Express riders picked up the mail to be delivered. The Jesse James Home, where the famous outlaw was gunned down, lies next door to the Patee.
