Situated on the west coast of the Island of Hawaii, Puuhonua o Honaunau is a National Historical Site which served as a place of refuge for Hawaiian's who were fleeing from the law, up until the early 19th century. Puuhonua o Honaunau also served as a refuge for defeated warriors in exile and non-combatants who refused to partake in battle.
