About Great Sand Dunes
The Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado is known for its iconic, sweeping sand dunes that tower over the seasonal Medano Creek. When the creek is full, a natural beach is formed at the base of the dunes, fantastic for swimming, especially for families with young children. The mountains surrounding the dunes are criss-crossed with hiking trails, navigating canyons, forests, wetlands and alpine lakes that are great for trout fishing.
