About Sumilon Island

Sumilon Island is a tiny but stunning sandbar island just a short boat ride from Oslob, Cebu. This marine protected area boasts lush greenery, pristine waters, and coral reef beaches lined with fine, powdery white-sand shorelines. There’s only one resort on the island and it’s the 4-star Sumilon Bluewater.

When to visit

The best time to visit Sumilon Island, Philippines, is during the dry season when the weather is sunny and the waters are calm, perfect for beach activities and snorkeling.

Most popular: March - April

Spring · Mar, Apr, May

Springtime on Sumilon Island, aligning with the latter part of the dry season, is an ideal period for beach enthusiasts and sun seekers. The weather is predominantly sunny, with clear blue skies, making it perfect for exploring the island’s renowned white sandbar, which changes shapes and shifts locations around the island. The ocean is calm and crystal clear, offering excellent conditions for snorkeling, diving, and swimming, especially around the island's thriving coral reefs. This is the time when the island is vibrant, with lush greenery and blooming flowers, providing a picturesque backdrop for travelers.

Summer · Jun, Jul, Aug

During the summer months, which mark the transition into the wet season, Sumilon Island experiences occasional rain showers, usually brief and refreshing, interspersed with sunny spells. The island remains a beautiful destination, with the rain bringing a cooler atmosphere and nourishing the island’s flora, making the surroundings even greener. This season offers a unique opportunity for visitors to enjoy water activities without the crowds of peak tourist season. The slightly overcast days are perfect for hiking Sumilon's trails, offering stunning views of the ocean and the mainland.

Autumn · Sep, Oct, Nov

Autumn on Sumilon Island is characterized by the wet season’s peak, with more frequent and heavier rainfall. However, this does not deter the adventurous spirit, as the island reveals a different kind of beauty. The rains transform the landscape into a lush, verdant paradise, with waterfalls and streams becoming more pronounced and vibrant. It's a great time for eco-tourists and nature lovers to explore the island’s natural reserves, bird watch, and enjoy the cooler climate. The seas might be a bit rougher, making it an exciting time for surfers to catch waves on the outer reefs.

Winter · Dec, Jan, Feb

In the cooler months, which are at the tail end of the wet season leading back into the dry period, Sumilon Island gradually sees a decrease in rainfall and a return to more consistently sunny days. This season is ideal for those looking to experience a tranquil escape, with fewer tourists and a serene atmosphere. The waters start to calm again, making it a fantastic time for diving and exploring the marine sanctuaries. The cooler air and gentle sea breezes make beach lounging and island exploration exceptionally pleasant activities.
