Nungwi Beach

About Nungwi Beach

Nungwi Beach has a livelier feel than some of Zanzibar’s quieter coastal stops, but it still feels easy to settle into. The beach is known for its white sand, swimmable water, sunset views, and mix of beach stays, restaurants, and local activity, so it works well if you want somewhere that feels scenic without being too sleepy. It also tends to be one of the easier beaches on the island for straightforward beach time and boat trips.

When to visit

June to October is the classic dry-season sweet spot, while January and February bring hotter, sunnier beach weather with minimal rainfall.

Most popular: June - October

Spring · Sep, Oct, Nov

Spring in Nungwi runs from Sep. to Nov. and begins warm, bright, and beach-friendly before the short rains build later in the season. September and October are especially appealing for swimming, diving, and sunset beach days, while November turns greener, quieter, and more changeable with brief tropical showers.

Summer · Dec, Jan, Feb

Summer spans Dec. to Feb. and feels hot, tropical, and full of holiday energy, with warm seas and bright beach days. January and February are especially attractive thanks to minimal rainfall, high temperatures, and strong overall Zanzibar beach conditions

Autumn · Mar, Apr, May

Autumn falls from Mar. to May and is the wettest part of the year, especially during the long rains of April and May. The scenery becomes lush and vivid, but heavier rainfall and humidity make this a quieter, less reliable season for a classic sun-and-sea stay.

Winter · Jun, Jul, Aug

Winter in Nungwi runs from Jun. to Aug. and is one of the best times to visit, with drier weather, lower humidity, and comfortable temperatures. The northern coast is especially appealing at this time because Nungwi offers calm, easy beach conditions and polished holiday atmosphere.
