Transkei

About Transkei

Between 1976 and 1994, Transkei was an unrecognised state in South Africa's Eastern Cape region, operating as a Bantustan, an area set aside for black South Africans during apartheid. After being dissolved and reincorporated into South Africa, the region maintained much of its culture and heritage, with traditional farming villages still existent today.
