Rural São Vicente shows you a quieter side of the island, where small fishing villages, open coastal roads, and drier inland scenery feel very different from the energy of Mindelo. It works well if you want to see more of everyday island life, especially around places like Salamansa, Calhau, and Baía das Gatas, where the pace feels slower and the landscape does more of the talking.
When to visit
November to July is the strongest window for dry, breezy exploring, while August to October is hotter and carries the island’s highest rainfall.

Rural São Vicente is found outside Mindelo across the island’s smaller villages and coastal areas, and is usually reached by road in 20 to 40 minutes from Cesária Évora Airport depending on which part of the island you are heading to.
